Coffee? Sunday Scribblings

This week's writing prompt is coffee.  Yuck!  Since I hate coffee (it does smell divine), I thought I'd write about my favorite, can't live without, must have, beverage - iced tea!

I was born and raised in Virginia.  For some people, just hearing the word Virginia makes them think of the country for some weird reason.  I grew up in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is far from "country" and is actually the largest resort city in the world. Growing up, the population was probably around 200,000 or so.  Now, there are about 450,000+ and it still seems to be growing!!

My point is, I grew up in the south, but in a very "non-southern" town.  However, I do love traditional southern sweet iced tea.  I make a gallon of fresh brewed iced tea at least every other day.  It is the first thing I drink in the morning, and the last thing I drink at night.  Everybody who comes to my house, knows that I will always have cold, sweet iced tea in the fridge.  Always.

In the summer, neighborhood children come to our house and claim that they are so thirsty they cannot possibly make the trip back to their own houses (across the street or next door) and please oh please can they have some tea?  Of course, I pour the tea freely and they always come back for more.  To me, iced tea is the essence of southern hospitality.

Sweet tea is definitely the drink of the South. As a Yankee by birth, I always crack up when I am in a northern state and a southern friend will ask the server at a restaurant, "Do you have sweet tea?" Love the blank stare and the "We have sweetener on the table."

Wow that glass of tea looks good. It makes my mouth water! I will be right over.

I love iced tea but not sweetened. Although if hot and thirsty I'll settle for anything liquid (and non-alcoholic). I enjoyed your post. I illustrates the differences in regional tastes,

Actually I don't like either beverage (coffee or tea)I will only drink a coffee if it is a mocha which is more chocolate than coffee!

I only have coffee in the morning...otherwise I like iced tea (but not the freshly brewed stuff) and lemonade, my all-time favorite drink

Southern hospitality always means a tall glass of sweet tea. Me, I like my iced tea with lemon. Nice post!

For me iced-tea carries some special meaning. Thought of it takes me to the end of my thoughts. I love it.

I strangely enough don't like tea or coffee. Diet Dr. Pepper is my drink of choice and about all I drink other than water and occasional glass of cherry or grape Kool-aid.

Your mom actually tried to fake me out when I was a kid and give me tea with me thinking it was koolaid of some sort. I about choked, if I remember correctly. Yucky stuff.

Cold, sweet tea sounds wonderful! I still have to have my coffee, but tea is definitely another of my favorites!
